Learning Solutions Senior Instructional Designer at Interim HR Consulting, Chicago, IL
Purpose: The Learning Solutions Senior Instructional Designer is accountable for the design and development of learning and performance-focused solutions, for business initiatives across all Banking Groups. Doing so enables Banking Groups to achieve visible and measurable improvements to human performance, development and/or productivity and business results. All projects require a level of project management and coordination. The project scope may be enterprise-wide or group-specific, however will be more complex or impactful requiring a level of knowledge or interpersonal skills to interact with senior Executive levels. May require specialist knowledge of audience (e.g. Risk Management) over and above design skills.
Accountabilities:
- Participate or act as a lead on multiple internal projects varying in size and complexity. Emphasis will be on projects of greater complexity.
- Coaching and providing review guidance to Instructional Designers and Associate Instructional Designers within the team
- Responsibilities include scoping project objectives, analyzing expectations of target audiences, defining the learning objectives, describing the tasks and activities, estimating the resources necessary, developing detailed learning plans, designing and developing learning programs
- Define accurate timelines and project scope, cost and resourcing requirements
- Develop detailed design documents and prototypes
- Utilize ID3 and Change System processes and tools throughout project life cycle
- Design and develop instructional materials, programs and processes for digital and web-enabled course development and learning strategies including instructor-led and web-based certification, as well as asynchronous & synchronous events
- Writes, storyboards and edits learning and performance support interventions
- Conduct research through interview and benchmarking for the purpose of making recommendations for improvements and applying industry best practices
- Works with the measurement team to develop measurement and evaluation tools to test the effectiveness of the training developed
- Becomes skilled at and becomes an expert for learning solution product features and benefits
- Expert knowledge and application of adult learning principles and appropriate instructional design methods to the development of learning products
- Advises design/development team members of capabilities and limitations of various delivery methods from a design perspective
- Participates in the beta testing of learning materials
- Participates in the design and deployment of overall learning solutions architecture
- Contribute and maintain content on Learning Network website
- Schedule and supervise the work of level 400 project analysts and associate instructional designers, when a member of your project team
- Review and sign off on the work of level 400 project analysts and associate instructional designers, when creating deliverables for your project
- Provide coaching and feedback to level 400 project analysts and instructional designers regarding their work and performance, when a member of your project team
- Provide input to PPR’s of level 400/500 Instructional Designers
- Attend regular project team meetings and provide regular status updates on activities, identifying any issues or challenges
- Act as a point of contact for client, subject matter experts and for level 400/500 project managers of instructional design who are a member of your project team
- Liase with Subject Matter Experts, as required, throughout the design and development process for content validation
- Assist in designing and conducting client needs assessments and in preparing needs assessment reports
- Work in partnership with other areas of the Bank and external vendors to deliver on project goals
- Manage relationships with external vendors throughout project life cycle
- Provide advice/input to support clients in meeting their business objectives – recommend implementation of the highest value deliverables at the lowest cost
- Ensure timely escalation of project issues to appropriate stakeholders
- Build effective relationships with business partners, ensuring their confidence that their business needs/objectives are being met/exceeded
- Provide ongoing support to team members
Qualifications/Designations:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree and equivalent work experience
- Preference for Bachelor of Education and/or Masters in Education
- Formal Instructional Design or e-Learning certification/accreditation
Skill/Knowledge Requirements:

- Demonstrated Interpersonal skills and confidence to interact with senior Executives to translate their visions and goals into learning design solutions
- Conduct Learning Needs Analysis
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task on projects varying in complexity and of strategic importance to clients and the enterprise
- Expert knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional methodologies, technology-enabled design and learning methods
- Experience in the design and development of training for all three main delivery methods: self-directed, facilitated classroom and web-based
- Excellent knowledge and experience with systems development life cycle for Learning Solutions
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons
- Current and relevant knowledge of instructional design process, learning styles, multilevel instructional techniques
- Strong knowledge of web development processes
- Basic proficiency level with Microsoft Word, Project, PowerPoint and Excel
- Familiarity with authoring and web-development tools
- Ability to act independently within defined objectives and direction
