Marketing and Communications Specialist

Overland Park KS Corporation is in need of a Marketing/Communication Specialist. This is a Mid-level professional position, with responsibilities in one or more related areas: marketing, communications, event coordination, branding, and proposal support. Understands the strategy/vision of assigned work group. Requires thorough knowledge of business practices and procedures within work group or recognized body of formal knowledge. This includes knowledge required for complex problems, new project and system development, etc. Uses a wide application of principles, theories, concepts, and draws on previous experience to determine a course of action. Tasks may be more tactical than strategic in nature.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Branding
- Applies standard brand guidelines.
- Assists in implementing branding initiatives throughout the company.
- Coordinates and may lead branding projects that align to overall brand direction and strategy, which includes working with other divisions to carry out brand messaging, as well as look and feel through all channels.
- Conducts research and industry analysis regarding trends and opportunities in the company's markets.
- Assists in the development of key messaging and campaigns that support the company's brand (i.e. collateral, advertising, web, conferences, etc.).
- Carries out brand execution through various divisions within the company.
Communications
- Applies standard principles, theories and concepts in copyediting.
- Edits, proofreads and writes complex company communications materials.
- Consults with team leaders and/or management to develop schedules, milestones, and priorities.
- Participates in assigning projects to internal/external resources/vendors as well as track and measure progress.
- Reviews documents to establish that company standards contained in the Communications Manual are met.
- Researches and verifies the authenticity of material.
- Reviews and edits written copy, articles, web content, marketing collateral, internal/external publications, news releases, social media and video copy and the like for content accuracy, style, grammar, spelling, and syntax punctuation.
Marketing
- Reviews and edits marketing collateral for content, accuracy, style, grammar, punctuation, spelling and syntax. Begins to customize messages for intended audiences.
- Participates in projects and provides input to development of marketing plans, measurements and forecasts.
- Participates in planning and scheduling to establish deadlines and ensure timely completion of several independent tasks.
- Multiple tasks/projects are assigned and reviewed generally only upon completion.
- Participates in coordination of layout, artwork, and progress through production.
- Organizes and schedules group tasks.
Proposals
- Participates in the development and implementation of pursuit plans required for statements of qualifications, proposals, and presentations.
- Contacts internal and external sources to develop pursuit content, winning messages, and themes.
- Leads the assembly of statements of qualifications, proposals and other pursuit related collateral.
- Monitors, tracks, and reports number of submitted division statements of qualifications and proposals.
- May schedule/coordinate work activities for small team of inter-division proposal resources.
- Participates as division or group representative in proposal leadership and other relevant discussion forums.
Event Coordinating
- Provides cost effective and successful meeting planning services by coordinating facilities, lodging, food and beverage, travel, entertainment and other related issues for conferences, meetings, trade shows, and special events.
- Coordinates and recommends arrangements for the booking, set-up and establishment of company presence at industry trade shows, events and exhibits.
- Reviews space requirements and determines placement.
- Coordinates acquisition and shipment of exhibit materials, company products required.
- Coordinates installation of specialized equipment and facilities.
- Schedules events which may require acquisition of facilities, travel arrangements, program talent, and catering.
- Researches site locations for suitability.
- Prepares bid comparisons.
- Reviews site and service contracts for facilities, transportation, entertainment, events and related activities.
- Coordinates arrangements with vendors and site logistics as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have previous proposal writing or technical writing. Will need to provide samples at interview with our client.
Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, or a related field; or equivalent experience
Experience: 4+ years related experience
